Starting a sales career is both exciting and challenging. The Gartner Sales Development Program (SDP) is designed to equip participants with the skills and business acumen they need to be successful in their roles. The program hires recent college graduates and, through a 12-15 month training program, prepares them to confidently take on full quota-bearing sales roles.
We spoke to Brooke Sills, (Account Executive) and Steven Ridout, (Business Development Manager) about their experience with the program and how it has impacted their career success.
Brooke Sills, Account Executive
The Sales Development Program is a post-college, sales career steppingstone. The 15-month program teaches young professionals how to create outreach, cold call, prospect, and develop executive presence. As a result, one is equipped with a sales skill set that will jump-start their sales career.
My experience in SDP prepared me for my current Account Executive role. During my time in SDP, I learned best practices from tenured Account Executives, developed executive presence, and understood the growth and retention aspects associated with an Account Executive role. I have felt confident in my Account Executive role due to the developmental sessions and trainings I completed in SDP as well. Additionally, SDP provided me with invaluable networking opportunities that have helped me grow professionally at Gartner.
Steven Ridout, Business Development Manager
The Gartner SDP combines comprehensive learning with practical experiences, offering insight into Gartner's business model and client value delivery.
As an SDP associate, you'll gain exposure to all facets of the sales process, collaborating with experienced contributors eager to share their expertise. The program's structure includes both training and fieldwork, where you'll apply best practices, prospect new leads and engage in sales calls. This experience is enriched by mentorship from leaders who invest in your growth, fostering both professional and personal development.
