Describe your job in 25 words or less: I am honored to lead a team of Service Delivery Associates across the Asia/Pacific region. We work to ensure CIOs derive maximum value from their Executive Programs membership.
What originally attracted you to Gartner? I was a member of Executive Programs for over 12 years in various IT leadership and CIO roles. My ExP membership became an integral part of my success. The insights derived, the frameworks mastered, the thought leadership combined to form an indispensable toolkit.
Who has been a mentor for you here at Gartner? How have they helped you? Andy Rowsell-Jones has always been my best mentor at Gartner. This is due to the trusted advisor relationship we forged when I was a member and he was working with me as a Gartner analyst. Andy helped me navigate many leadership challenges in my previous role — and I have continued to be the beneficiary of this coaching approach since joining Gartner.
What are 3 words that best describe Gartner? Intellectually stimulating, challenging — in a constructive way — and ethical.
What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most? I enjoy leading a team of high-caliber professionals who are passionate about their roles. The APAC team is exceptional. To a person, they are intent on making a difference to the performance of their members and building strong and lasting relationships between these CIOs and Gartner. The team, although eclectic in many regards, is generous, motivated and talented. I consider myself very fortunate.
What advice would you give to recent new hires? Develop robust organizational habits from day one. It is a joy to work at Gartner. However, the work can come thick and fast. One needs to have strong systems and processes to ensure all is managed elegantly and nothing falls through the cracks — and that you have time and energy to focus on what is really meaningful.
If you were to write a book about yourself, what would you name it? What a question?! I’m probably giving too much away. However I would name my book “She’ll Be Right.” That is a very Australian expression. In this context it has many interpretations.
What are some words that best describe you? It is always tough to describe oneself. So I will use words that have been used about me by others (which I have remembered): Loyal & Positive
If you could switch your job with anyone else within Gartner whose job would you want and why? I am totally unqualified to do the job. However, I would take on Moira Collins’ job (as long as I could assume her calm, politically astute and intelligent disposition). Moira is the hub of the ExP universe to my mind in her role as leading the customer experience.
Favorite Quote or Personal Mantra: I used to work for a CEO who first told me of the phrase “Never let good be the enemy of best.” I have often thought about and applied that mantra. It has frequently been successful in breaking a mental log jam.
