Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

From Combat to Corporate: James D. and Eric H. Share their Story

As Veteran’s Month comes to an end, we wanted to share a final story to show our appreciation for the top military talent who work with us at Gartner.

James D., VP and team manager of Global Services and Delivery, has been with Gartner since April 2015. He started as an Executive Partner and now leads a team of nine EPs within the Federal region.

James, better known to his colleagues as Jim, is an excellent example of associates with military backgrounds now integral to Gartner’s success — and why we encourage diverse identities throughout the enterprise. Jim must have recognized, as he reached out to his fellow Veteran Eric H.

“Eric and I worked together when we were in the US Marine Corps,” he says. “I worked directly for the CIO of the Marine Corps in the Pentagon at the time, and Eric was on my team. I got to know him and his abilities very well, as our work was in establishing IT policy for the Marine Corps. Eric soon became my go-to person for all of the hard things we had to get done, and I relied on him a lot. We stayed in touch, and when I joined Gartner, I kept Eric in mind because I knew his experience and abilities would serve our clients very well.”

Eric celebrated his three-year anniversary with Gartner recently. He works with Jim as a Global Services and Delivery Department Executive Partner.

"Working as a veteran at Gartner has been a tremendous opportunity. My role in supporting the Federal region keeps me connected to the military mission, allowing me to continue serving in a meaningful capacity. Additionally, having previously worked with Jim while in uniform, I'm thrilled to maintain and grow that relationship. Being part of the Gartner team is a continuation of my service journey and a fresh, exciting chapter."

Our mission is to make Gartner a great workplace, and we are united in our appreciation for our associates’ public service. We continue to strive to cultivate a culture and community of inclusion.
