Director, Research - Remote

Research Directors work closely with C-level executives and their leadership teams to identify and produce research that solve complex business challenges on a global scale. This includes directing the scope of the research, identifying, and executing on product deliverables (e.g., best-practice case studies, issue analysis papers, benchmarking results), and building new content ideas. They exhibit a flexible approach to respond to executives’ needs as they are uncovered and evolve. The Research Director also partners with commercial, and other team members, to drive positive client and business outcomes.

This Research Director position is in Gartner’s Supply Chain Research Practice , specifically serving professionals working on supply chain planning. The Research Director will build on Gartner’s foundation of supply chain planning research and advice by identifying client’s most critical supply chain planning priorities and developing a portfolio of research that helps clients efficiently improve internal planning processes and outcomes.

In this role you will:

  • Lead a research team through a proprietary research process including hypothesis generation, primary and secondary research, and root cause analysis to identify new ideas and frameworks to solve critical client challenges.

  • Conduct surveys and phone interviews with executives, academics, and industry experts to identify their most pressing challenges, discover best practices, and develop research products around them.

  • Direct a research team to complete thorough extensive secondary literature searches and elicit the highest quality insights for use in white papers, exclusive member events, and highly visible research studies.

  • Present research findings to senior internal managers and member companies.

  • Develop and execute a product plan involving both collaboratively developed and individually owned research deliverables for clients.

In this role you will need to have:

  • A Bachelor's degree required, and a Master’s/PhD in a social science preferred.

  • 10+ years of experience conducting primary and secondary research utilizing qualitative and quantitative data.

  • Strong business acumen and intellectual curiosity to process and understand information quickly, as well as diagnose issues to make actionable recommendations. 

  • Experience converting qualitative and quantitative information into clear frameworks, narratives, and visually compelling presentations for an executive audience.

  • Willingness to challenge conventional norms and views, persistence and intellectual curiosity to evaluate leading approaches.

  • Complex project management experience.

Certain locations in the United States require job postings to include a reasonable estimate of the base salary range and/or a general description of benefits and other compensation applicable to the role. For this role in those locations, the base salary range for new hires is:

California Annualized Base Pay Range: 128,000 USD - 147,200 USD

Colorado Annualized Base Pay Range: 116,000 USD - 133,400 USD

New Jersey Annualized Base Pay Range: 136,000 USD - 156,400 USD

New York Annualized Base Pay Range: 136,000 USD - 156,400 USD

Washington Annualized Base Pay Range: 128,000 USD - 147,200 USD

Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based, uncapped sales incentive plan. Our talent acquisition team will provide the specific opportunity on our bonus or incentive programs to eligible candidates.
