What you will do:
Gartner is looking for an experienced professional with a very strong background in supporting Technology Investors - particularly Deal Teams in Private Equity & Venture Capital - in the development of their portfolios in the tech space. As part of our Gartner Invest research team, you will be developing research and providing advice on best practices, tools and processes for clients who are in a Deal Team or Operating Partner role with these investment firms.
Your insights will help clients in Deal Teams as they work to:

Identify and evaluate potential investments.

Complete due diligence on investment activities, including M&A.

Benchmark portfolio company financial and business performance.
You may also support operating partners as they:
-
Assess and develop the leadership teams of their portfolio companies (portcos).

Identify course correction for missed goals/KPIs.
-
Identify acquisition and market expansion opportunities.
-
Develop and implement technology strategies alongside portco leadership teams.
-
Optimize marketing reach and impact alongside portco leadership teams.
We provide objective insights on market, buyer and competitor behavior to our Invest clients that support their idea generation, assumption and thesis validation, and value creation plans. Gartner is not a broker dealer and does not provide buy-sell-hold advice. You will work closely with other Gartner Invest analysts, and with Gartner technology research analyst counterparts to develop and provide market insights, competitive analysis, and industry growth projections to these clients. You may also monitor and evaluate the financial performance of specific assigned publicly owned providers.
Job Responsibilities:

Build Gartner’s research for Operating Partner role best practices, tools and processes.

Provide insight to Gartner Invest clients and prospects, including Operating Partner clients and prospects, to help them make decisions through one-to-one and one-to-many interactions.

Stay abreast of market, business and competitor trends that could affect vendor performance in your coverage area.

Work closely with Invest analyst colleagues and technology analysts to develop and maintain a point of view around what is driving the markets that are critical to our Invest and Operating Partner clients.

Interpret and contextualize this point of view specifically for the Operating Partner role.

Create new or contextualized content for our technology investor clients that supports idea generation, assumption and thesis validation, and value creation.

Participate in industry and company sponsored conferences as appropriate.

Provide sales support serving as voice of the market to help drive engagement with clients and prospects.

Provide high quality and timely research content peer review.

Build credibility as an industry expert to represent Gartner research, methodology and strategy.
What you will need:
-
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
-
12 years of related experience.
-
Strong financial background with knowledge of financial modeling, and ability to dissect financial reports.
-
Strong analytical and quantitative skills, problem-solving ability and, the ability to synthesize and derive fact-based insights from large data sets.
-
An executive presence: with the ability to partner with and establish credibility with executives and additional stakeholders.
-
Strong organizational skills: ability to work under tight deadlines and produce high quality deliverables.
-
Strong written and verbal proficiency, analytical and presentation skills; ability to engage clients and respond effectively to questions.

Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts concisely and simply.

Strong technology sector background.

Experience in the Operating Partner role, or in adjacent roles such as Corporate Strategy/Development Consulting, M&A, Due Diligence, Corporate Restructuring, Acquisition Integration or Turnarounds.

Strong presentation skills with the ability to present at large and small-scale speaking engagements.

Ability to work independently, while also being intrinsically motivated to collaborate across teams and support the workflow of others, in a multicultural global team.

Ability to represent Gartner's research methodology and strategies effectively at all levels.
Preferred:

MBA or equivalent post-graduate certification.

Experience in small and mid-cap tech sectors.

New York Annualized Base Pay Range: 150,000 USD - 170,000 USD
Washington Annualized Base Pay Range: 150,000 USD - 170,000 USD
Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based, uncapped sales incentive plan.
