Role Purpose:
The Gartner Conferences and Marketing Technology organization (CMT) is seeking an experienced Vice President of Solution Architecture to join our team.

In this role, you will be responsible for driving the Software Engineering standards, patterns, and practices to deliver innovative technology solutions for our clients.
You will work closely with both business and technology stakeholders to mature and evolve all Software & Infrastructure in the CMT organization.

As an individual contributor that reports into the Group Vice President of the CMT organization, you will be empowered to establish and execute an Architectural Roadmap for 100+ engineers (and growing).
Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

You will develop and maintain a deep understanding of our company's products and services, as well as emerging technologies and trends in the industry.

Collaborate with senior leaders to develop and implement a strategy for the CMT organization.

You will lead architectural and engineering maturity assessments across the CMT organization, and drive iterative improvements based on the assessments outcomes.

You will design software systems and applications, acting as a decision maker in the process of determining everything from design choices to technical standards, such as platform and coding standards.

You will own the evaluation of new technologies in the CMT organization, and help business partners and technical leads across the organization derive the most benefits from our new technology selections.

You will foster collaboration between various Technology teams, in order to grow our technical acumen and align our teams to our long-term Technology vision which includes more microservices, containers, and serverless.
Relationships:
This is a role that requires excellent communication skills, since the VP of Solution Architecture will interact with technical leads, software engineers and members of the Business executive leadership team on a frequent basis. Most of the relationships will be internal, but some will be external when working with software vendors or consultants to evaluate new technologies.
What you will need:

Bachelor in a computer science or IT related field preferred
-
Strong experience in all phases of the software development life cycle, including delivering solutions to Production at scale.

10+ years of experience in solution architecture and/or Software Engineering

5+ years of experience leading a team of solution architects and/or Engineers

Strong knowledge of software development principles, patterns, and practices

Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)

Strong communication and leadership skills

Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams

Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment
Technical/ Professional Skills & Competencies:
-
Intimate knowledge of several programming languages such as Java, node.js, Python or .NET

Experience designing complex software in a way that is scalable and secure

Experience with all aspects of the software development lifecycle, including SCRUM and Agile development methodologies

Experience with cloud computing, container technologies and serverless computing

Excellent organizational and communications skills

Good writing skills, with an ability to communicate complex technical topics to both technical and non-technical audiences
