About this role:

As a senior performance engineer, the person will primarily be responsible for supporting production or operations when conferences are live and work as part of the conference's operations team. Between conferences they will ensure the conference application's operational readiness by evaluating its performance, scale, resiliency & observability. They will be responsible for identifying issues in production, triaging identified issues, partnering with other engineers on the team to identify the root cause. Other responsibilities include creating workload models, executing performance tests, creating chaos test cases and executing chaos tests. 

What you’ll do

  • As part of the SRE scrum team, perform full stack triaging of alerts and engage other engineers  to identify  root cause of application performance & stability issues

  • Monitor operational dashboards & alerts during conferences and respond to alerts 

  • Identify opportunities to improve dashboard/alerting  posture & modify accordingly 

  • Collaborate with cross functional members of swat team during production incidents and provide critical technical insight as well as thought leadership to identify the root cause

  • Available to work flexible hours for operational support during select conferences and work with team members in India and US for any coordination and hand over 

  • Create/derive NFR/Workload model and ensure performance & resiliency is considered early in the SDLC. Build load test scenarios and scripts in JMeter

  • Understand the application architecture and perform Single point of failure analysis and create scenarios for testing resiliency of the application

  • Execute performance/chaos tests,  analyze using APM and other monitoring  tools to identify performance & stability issues. Use data driven analysis to make recommendations and drive results

  • Assist Cloud Teams and Platform teams in monitoring infrastructure capacity, recommend right sizing and cost-saving opportunities without sacrificing performance or stability

  • Document the findings/results/analysis, communicate and present to stakeholders

  • Collaborate with cross functional teams of developers, cloud, system engineers, observability & DBAs to identify application defects in terms of performance and resiliency.

What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.

  • 6+ years of information technology experience with 4+ years working on production support or SRE or performance engineering or development team

  • Experienced in triaging of production issues using APM tools such as Dynatrace or AppDynamics or New Relic and log aggregation tools such as Splunk, ELK, etc. 

  • Experience in collaborating with Dev/DBA/Architecture teams or other relevant teams and performing root cause analysis with good working knowledge of application, processes, operating system

  • Experience with AWS cloud, specifically services such as EC2, EKS, API GW, Lambda, etc. or similar cloud technologies & services

  • Preferred: Exposure to Performance Engineering concepts 

  • Preferred: Exposure to chaos testing or chaos engineering 

  • Preferred: Exposure to automation and scripting skills using jenkins, python, shell, etc.

  • It is not necessary to have this knowledge, but it would be a bonus if you have experience in: Networking concepts/protocols such as TCP/IP, packet capture and analysis and Web Application Development using C# or .NET core runtime OR Mobile application development on iOS or Android platforms

  • Ability to work independently and partner with team members with a strong sense of initiative and drive

  • Excellent analytical, verbal & written communication skills with data driven analysis
