What you’ll do:

This analyst creates thought leading research for Software Engineering Leaders around the world. S/he publishes original research, speaks with clients directly, presents at global events and delivers client engagements virtually or in person. This position requires you to be a life-long learner with the versatility to quickly adjust to rapidly changing trends around software engineering.

It is critical to have deep experience leading software engineers to deliver cutting-edge software, a growth mindset, and an insatiable curiosity for the impact that digital products have on the world. Knowledge and experience leading product design and development teams (in-house and/or outsourced) and as a thought leader in software engineering strategy and practices across an end-to-end value stream is critical. Our Software Engineering Leader and IT leader clients need actionable advice on how to build world-class software engineering organizations, and shift their teams’ culture, practices and technology to support development of digital products on modern cloud platforms, to drive business success. 

As a Gartner analyst, you will deliver thought-leading research that equips Software Engineering Leaders to position their teams for maximum success.  You will meet with clients every day: on the phone, in video-conference meetings, from the stage at a Gartner event, or face-to-face during an on-site engagement.  In every client interaction, analysts help clients solve difficult (organizational and technical) challenges that lead to better business performance .

To support these conversations you will research markets, practices and trends, and produce research for Gartner clients to apply to their mission critical priorities:

  • Conduct research and analysis to uncover best practices for setting up and managing world-class software engineering organizations.
  • Deliver high-quality actionable advice through a variety of media.
  • Write provocative and pragmatic research that clear and actionable.
  • Create and delivery presentations for webinars, onsite engagements and Gartner conferences.
  • Track vendors, market trends and emerging practices to remain ahead of the curve within these areas, and adjacent spaces (e.g., digital transformation, culture change, and quality practices).
  • Promote Gartner’s industry leadership reputation by handling press inquiries
  • Deliver outstanding sales support in order to retain and grow the Gartner business

What you’ll need:

It helps to be obsessed with digital product strategy and management! Gartner analysts are viewed as THE experts.  You need to know your markets, vendors, trends, team practices, etc. and be able to see the forest and the trees.  Most Gartner analysts have many years of hands-on experience and enjoy solving complex problems for the world’s biggest companies. You’ll need:

  • Minimum of 12 years of experience (combined) across software engineering management, product management, agile development, and/or product marketing roles. Breadth is a plus.
  • Subject matter expertise, with demonstrated knowledge of software trends and emerging best practices for digital product management and strategy. Ideally your experience also includes a heavy orientation toward agile methodologies for digital product development, product roadmapping and budgeting, building business cases and mechanisms for benefits realization, and talent strategies to staff successful software engineering organizations.
  • As a bonus area, expertise in engineering digital business technology platforms would be highly valuable. Other bonus areas could include application portfolio management, rationalization and consolidation.
  • Ability to formulate and articulate technology and business adoption scenarios that help senior technology leaders assess the opportunities, risks, and best approaches for modernizing their software engineering organization. Vertical industry knowledge is a plus.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues that cover application architecture and integration, customer experience and design, product management, as well as with industry-specific analysts, such as healthcare and financial services.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills, applying conceptual models and recognizing patterns to draw and defend conclusions.
  • Strong business acumen is required for this position.
  • Articulate and succinct communication skills. Experience in writing and speaking is an advantage.
  • Bachelor's or equivalent experience, preferably Computer Science, Software engineering, or a related field; a graduate degree is a plus.
  • Ability to conduct occasional travel, regionally and globally.

Certain locations in the United States require job postings to include a reasonable estimate of the base salary range and/or a general description of benefits and other compensation applicable to the role. For this role in those locations, the base salary range for new hires is:

California Annualized Base Pay Range: 150,000 USD - 170,000 USD

Colorado Annualized Base Pay Range: 150,000 USD - 170,000 USD

New Jersey Annualized Base Pay Range: 150,000 USD - 170,000 USD

New York Annualized Base Pay Range: 150,000 USD - 170,000 USD

Washington Annualized Base Pay Range: 150,000 USD - 170,000 USD

Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based, uncapped sales incentive plan.
