Principal Analyst(Merger & Acquisition)


About the role:

Analysts create must-have insights for our clients through published research and client interaction. You will meet with clients every day: on the phone, in a videoconference, from the stage at a Gartner event, or face-to-face during a sales support visit. In every interaction, you will help clients overcome their challenges and perform better.

This is a unique opportunity for a systematic, creative, and experienced individual to make a big impact on Gartner’s client experience as part of the Gartner Mergers and Acquisitions team. You will form part of the dedicated and growing team that provides our clients with the indispensable insights, advice and tools to help achieve their mission-critical priorities and build the successful organizations of tomorrow.

What you will do:

Working as part of a team, support and contribute to the creation of Must-Have Research in M&A.

Research topics include:

  • M&A Strategy

  • M&A Transaction Execution

  • M&A Integration and Operations

  • Divestitures

Key tasks include:

  • Conduct primary and secondary research to gather data and insight for the defined M&A research agenda.

  • Conduct research into key areas of M&A research including:

    • M&A Software

    • Industry trends and best practices

  • Publish written research aligned to the team research plan.

  • Provide insight and advice in your subject matter area through compelling client engagement.

  • Actively participate in knowledge sharing sessions and proactively collaborate with other analysts globally to improve research quality.

  • Give and receive constructive feedback in peer review of written research.

  • Identify opportunities to streamline and automate repeatable work.

  • Regularly update team manager and colleagues on project progress.

  • Demonstrate empowered ownership of the tasks/projects assigned.

  • Follow internal processes and policies, including, HR, IT, and Finance.

What you will need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in commerce, economics, finance, statistics, or a related field required

  • 6+ years of progressive business experience, 4+ years of experience in M&A transactions

  • Experience in M&A transaction financial modelling including synergy and cost modeling. Excellent excel and modeling skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to translate qualitative and quantitative analysis into actionable business strategies

  • Experience in gathering input from and communicating ideas to clients and key stakeholders across businesses

  • Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of business, data science and technical stakeholders

  • Strong working knowledge of the end-to-end M&A process and M&A transaction execution

  • Outstanding project management skills (projects involving internal and external stakeholders) with ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritize workloads

  • Communication skills:

    • Written: A strong writing ability is mandatory. Writing efforts will require stating/taking positions, justifying those positions with facts and providing actionable analysis and recommendations.

    • Oral: Skills to converse on telephone and face to face and the ability to explain complex concepts concisely.

  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills and the ability to think critically and independently.

  • Maintain respectful professional relationships with colleagues and clients

  • Possess an engaging and enthusiastic manner.

  • Strong client presence and able to relate to a variety of different company and personality types

  • Candidates must credibly represent Gartner research, methodology and strategies at multiple levels (Board, C-Level, Business Unit and Operational) and multiple client organization types (End User Client, Investors, Technology and Service Providers, Resellers, Channel Partners)
