VP, Client Topic Sensing


About this role:

We are looking for a customer-obsessed business leader with strong creative and analytical skills to guide a new team within Research and Advisory’s (R&A) Content and Research Excellence organization. As the VP of Client Topic Sensing, you’ll work with cross functional groups, and collaborate across content creators, market research, product managers, and data scientists / engineers.  Your main goals will be to enable us to understand what content topics Gartner clients need today and in the future, which in turn will inform ‘essential content’ creation,  and determine the allocation of R&A resources; ultimately  driving client retention and supporting achievement of our revenue targets.

What you will do:

  • Overtime, build and lead a small team which is responsible for developing and maintaining best practices for understanding what content topics our clients are most interested in and what markets we should prioritize, in order to inform Gartner’s content coverage and planning processes.

  • Lead, through influence, adoption of these best practices across R&A, partnering with stakeholders to adapt strategies and processes to unique business and organizational differences. 

  • Develop a feedback loop to constantly improve practices and ultimately drive client retention.

  • Establish approaches to synthesize data from a variety of data sources / inputs to develop actionable guidance and business strategies 

  • Build and maintain a Gartner view of the markets we serve and their life cycles (growth, maintenance, decline) 

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to evaluate the impact of content on our business performance, identify the attributes of highly-engaging, Must-Have content and refine our understanding of the associated content production costs. 

  • Shape business questions and align the right mix of inputs (quantitative / qualitative) - determine the level of fidelity / precision of required data / analysis 

  • Build client research community strategies to help get regular feedback on content and topical coverage 

  • Partner with various analytics and data science teams to design and implement tools to enable easy access to analysis 

What you’ll need:

  • 12-15 years experience in marketing, applied economics or product management with high-data literacy, client empathy and business acumen.

  • Demonstrated ability to use advanced quantitative and qualitative techniques to understand and drive client needs.

  • Understanding of subscription-based business economics is a requirement; experience with business information services strongly preferred.

  • Advanced Degree in “STEM” field, Business Analytics, Marketing, Finance, Economics a plus.

  • 2+ years experience managing people.

  • Understanding of / experience with data science / machine learning / natural language processing

  • Excellent project management and verbal and written communication, especially in the context of managing processes and delivering technical analysis across diverse stakeholders to generate enterprise-level insights and strategies.

  • Passionate about content , great interpersonal skills, ability to influence and a high-tolerance ambiguity. 

  • demonstrated experience using complex data to solve business problems to drive revenue outcomes, extensive experience in driving and influencing change, and has skills to work across all levels of the organization to uncover and tap into opportunities to fuel Gartner’s revenue growth and increase the return on content investments.
