Principal, Research (HR, Leadership & Management Effectiveness Practice)

We're seeking a Principal in the Human Resources Research Practice’s Leader & Manager Effectiveness KI Team, to research and generate actionable business ideas on topics such as leader and manager development, succession management, high-potential talent management, that will influence executives and help them transform their organizations. Gartner's research is often cited in major news outlets including Forbes, Harvard Business Review, The Washington Post, and The Economist, allowing our firm to extend our impact even further.

How You Will Make an Impact at Gartner:
You will work closely with HR leaders and your team to identify and produce research that solve complex business challenges on a global scale. As a lead on this team, you will:

  • Author articles, webinar decks, or tools that address key challenges for HR leaders on the topic of Leader & Manager Effectiveness.
  • Provide coaching to junior team members on their research and career development.
  • Engage executives from Fortune 500- and mid- size companies to identify their most pressing business challenges.
  • Collaborate on a research team through Gartner’s proprietary research process including hypothesis generation, primary and secondary research, and root cause analysis to identify best-in-class solutions.
  • Conduct phone interviews with HR executives, academics, and industry experts to discover best practices.
  • Contribute to initiatives that improve the climate and culture of the team, the business unit, and the organization.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • M.S., M.A. in social science field optional
  • 4+ years of work experience in applied research
  • Ability to gather, analyze, restructure, identify and derive insights from qualitative and quantitative data
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire, write compelling, actionable research for executive clients
  • Strong business acumen and intellectual curiosity in order to process and understand information quickly, as well as diagnose issues to make actionable recommendations
  • Strong appetite to dive deep into a given content terrain to develop expertise and distill key findings
  • A skilled collaborator, able to guide research projects with multiple contributors as well as produce research individually
