Director, Brand Strategy


Gartner equips business leaders with indispensable insights, advice and tools to achieve their mission-critical priorities, steering them toward the right decisions on the issues that matter most. Our Corporate Marketing team plays an integral role in fueling Gartner’s growth by building the Gartner brand and digital experience, partnering with sales to drive leads, and converting prospects into Gartner clients. 

The Brand Strategy Director will join the Brand team in continuing to extend and sharpen the Gartner brand among key stakeholders and in the marketplace. The Director will play a critical role as the team’s creative lead, helping accelerate external brand understanding and affinity as well as internal brand adoption and advocacy. Successful candidates will have facility and demonstrable success with name creation, brand architecture and naming systems, and experience developing and maintaining a brand messaging platform.

What You Will Do:

  • Maximize the power of our master brand through naming
  • Develop brand and name architectures
  • Lead significant naming projects and name creation—e.g., new and acquired offerings, and employee programs
  • Establish naming strategy and guidance
  • Partner with Legal to advise internal teams on trademarking
  • Continuously develop, test and refine our corporate brand expression to be meaningful and relevant
  • Leverage brand and audience research insights to create and maintain a memorable corporate brand messaging platform.
  • Create and ensure ROI from corporate brand content so that we increase understanding of, engagement with and affinity for Gartner. Sample content can range from video scripts and web copy to marketing campaigns and more.
  • Help position and message new or existing offerings to support growth strategy and corporate brand power
  • Define and maintain strategic list of data points and facts that make corporate brand messaging credible; establish governance process to capture and deploy the information for annual content updates
  • Equip employees to be brand champions in their own work
  • Produce the policies, standards, guidance and tools that other employees need to express the brand consistently.
  • In coordination with Senior Brand Manager, leverage the Gartner Brand Center and internal communications and training programs to increase brand awareness and consistent adoption.
  • Continuously improve the team’s influence and impact with the company’s executives and senior leaders

What You Will Need:

  • 10+ years of experience in marketing communications with at least 3 years (preferred) in B2B professional services and technology industries, and at least 2 years (preferred) in corporate brand strategy.
  • Comfortable doing strategy work and producing the creative that brings it to life
  • Excellent internal and external communication and presentation skills, especially directed to senior executives.
  • Experience leading naming projects and naming offerings required; experience defining a brand or name architecture required and naming system desired 
  • Demonstrated success in naming and copywriting
  • Strategic, big picture thinking complimented by detail orientation.
  • Demonstrated success managing enterprise-wide change initiatives in large, complex organizations.
  • Experience managing external brand and creative agencies and independent contractors
