VP, Software Engineering (client facing tools)

Gartner is looking for a well-rounded, Technology Executive to lead the development of tools for Gartner clients.  The candidate will be responsible for leading global teams of software engineers, operations specialists and program management. The ideal candidate will be someone who has worked closely on developing tools (SaaS like) in partnership with business leaders. The candidate has played a key role in ground up development of consumer grade web-based platforms. Candidate should have demonstrable experience innovating with technology to meet business needs.

The candidate will have an opportunity to be a central player in developing Gartner’s client facing Tools platform which support Gartner’s $3.4B Research Business. The candidate will be a key thought partner to Gartner’s Research & Advisory teams for innovating on solutions which drive Gartner’s growth and retention initiatives.


Leadership Skills:

  • 10-15 years of experience as a Technology leader leading a team of full stack software engineers

  • Should have significant experience of managing diverse business partners and working directly with Business and IT Leaders to solve complex problems

  • Approachable with the experience and temperament to mentor associates technically and professionally

  • Must have significant experience in managing Agile/Scrum teams

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral, written and group presentations)

  • Proven track record of driving people, process and technology related change in an organization

  • Excellent prioritization skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively across the IT organization

  • Strong Project Management skills

  • Detail oriented

  • Act as a strong model within the organization for what “good looks like” from a leadership perspective


Technology Skills:

  • 10-15  years of experience building consumer facing web applications (.NET preferred)

  • Strong knowledge and prior implementation experience in building apps by leveraging .NETor Java frameworks

  • Experience in Continuous Integration and Test-Driven Development

  • Strong experience in building web-based applications with a robust user experience and familiarity with front-end tool sets (ReactJS/Angular/Ember, CSS3 & SASS Frameworks, HTML5, and Package managers such as NPM)

  • Strong exposure/expertise in building Responsive Front-end apps

  • Strong experience with Microservices and Service oriented architecture.

  • Strong Database Design/Development skills from an application development standpoint

  • Must understand the DevOps mindset and have strong experience in AWS or Azure Cloud.

  • Proven expertise in developing cloud native applications, leveraging the cloud for scale and velocity.

  • Must have strong UX knowledge and best practice skills for public facing applications. Candidate will be doing extensive UI feature brainstorming with the business users.

  • Knowledge and experience in building high performance tools with a global client base

  • Demonstrable experience innovating with technology

  • Strong knowledge of web security and best practices of secure web development

  • Should be able to balance operational and development needs of Gartner platforms.

  • Should be able to interact well with business and IT associates in resolving operational issues.
