Gartner is searching for an India-based Senior Principal (Team Manager) to join our global Assurance Peer and Practitioner Research team. This opportunity provides an exposure to the full range of leadership-level strategic and management responsibilities, including talent development, performance management, stakeholder management and long-term growth of the Risk and Audit team. The Senior Principal will be responsible for leading a team (of approx. 5 to begin with) responsible for investigating, analyzing and writing on critical issues faced by Assurance leadership (specifically CPOs to start with)  in Fortune 500 organizations. This individual will be responsible for coaching the team on various aspects including (but not limited to) qualitative research methods – interview CxOs at leading global corporations, conduct wide-ranging secondary literature searches, and synthesize information to elicit key insights – to help organizations transform the way they operate. The Senior Principal must be intellectually curious, driven by the opportunity to shape and lead a large team and have the desire to quickly develop “generalist” knowledge to effectively coach the team. The role is a key feeder to careers reaching the highest levels of the firm.

What you will do:

  • Learn and lead the audit & risk research team through Gartner's proprietary research process including hypothesis generation, primary and secondary research and root cause analysis to identify best-in-class solutions.

  • Coach, assess training needs, drive knowledge sharing of best practices and provide continuous performance feedback, managing performance at all levels.

  • Assess hiring needs to source, recruit, and onboard a group of diverse of next generation talent

  • Motivate, coach, facilitate, solve work problems, address people-related issues and be actively involved in the day-to-day activities of the team

  • Cultivate, own and influence stakeholder partnership that yields people growth while also ideating on how the India team can contribute to practice business objectives

  • Demonstrate a one-team mindset by consistently embracing diversity, inclusion and equity leadership practices

  • Help execute on product plan, including research topics, webinars, diagnostics and other deliverables to address critical executive needs.

  • Partner closely with internal dotted-line senior stakeholders in India, the US, UK and Australia as a part of global research initiatives.

We are looking for creative, analytically strong, articulate and self-motivated individuals who would like to develop a strong knowledge of the terrain along with building consultative problem-solving skills. Unlike management consulting, investment banking, or law, our strategic research positions do not depend on a special appetite or aptitude for sales or business development. Our search for talent is centered, without exception, on the ability to run deep on a logical, philosophical, or economic problem and resurface with rigorous original insight.   • Passionate about talent development and performance management

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with particular attention to precision of language and ability to organize information logically.

  • Enjoys solving complex problems and successfully manage ambiguity and unexpected change

  • A team player who can collaborate productively, build relationships and communicate and influence internal partners and stakeholders.

  • Proven competence for meeting deadlines, multi-tasking and managing work under ambiguity/uncertainty (e.g., changing factors, limited information)

  • Ability to sue metrics, feedback and other sources to inform and set team direction for success

  • Aspiration to constantly learn and improve.

Preferred experience:

  • Master's (Sociology, History, Philosophy, Literature, MBA etc.) or PhD degrees

  • 7+ years of research and/or management consulting experience

  • At least 2 years of experience managing projects end-to-end

  • At least 2 years of experience in coaching/mentoring a team of researchers

  • Demonstrated ability to teach and relay ideas, engage clients and work in global teams
