Sr Director Analyst - Tech CEO, Customer Acquisition

About the Role:

Gartner Analysts support clients with their most critical business and technology challenges. They combine Gartner Research and their experience to help clients solve complex issues, adopt new practices, and make better decisions. They identify and describe client challenges and articulate actionable advice that may be pragmatic or provocative. They reduce complex and multi-faceted issues into manageable problems. Client advice is delivered via published documents, virtual client-inquiry, on-line presentations, sales support meetings, and Gartner conferences.

Sr Director Analyst in the Tech CEO group will apply their experience and Gartner insight to advise CEOs in Gartner’s technology provider clients in China.

The role requires a broad understanding of the customer acquisition challenges faced by CEO’s who run small software or IT services providers (below 1,500 CNY) and want to expand their sales in the China market. Examples of the challenges are associated with; pricing and packaging decisions, executing a product launch, market segmentation and positioning, demand generation, partner strategies, sales effectiveness, retaining and growing customers, and market expansion. Candidates should be capable of speaking with authority on these issues as they relate to Tech CEO decision making and the China market.

Responsibilities:

  • Create clear business related and actionable advice for Tech CEOs, in Chinese and English , in areas related to customer acquisition in China. Especially:
    • Messaging and positioning
    • Awareness and demand generation
    • Sales effectiveness
    • Partner and channel strategies
    • Customer growth and retention
  • Write new syndicated research to meet China based clients’ needs.
  • Identify the root cause client’s business underperformance.
  • Aggregate client conversations to establish the priority questions that require advice.
  • Provide clients and prospects with actionable advice
  • Create and deliver presentation materials in Chinese and English for Gartner events, and client briefings
  • Provide sales support by speaking to prospective and existing clients by telephone and through face-to-face sales calls.

Qualifications:

  • Previous CMO or CEO experience at a small or start up technology provider in China, additional experience at a multinational technology prover is preferred
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a technology discipline; Master’s degree preferred
  • 15+ years of experience including marketing and the data and analytics industry in China
  • Strong analytical skills and familiarity with frameworks and models
  • Fluency in Chinese and English
  • Experience in:
    • Starting a technology provider business in China
    • Marketing for software or services provider in China
    • Selling to technology buyers in China at private, government and state owned enterprise
    • Understanding of local China technology provider competitive market
  • Strong executive presence, ability to engage C-level clients and build up rapport.
  • Ability to work independently, set personal interim goals and motivated by a multicultural global team
  • Strong personal organizational skills and ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Strong business and financial acumen
