We develop compelling contents for different roles in retail and commercial banking, wealth management as well as life and P&C insurance. Our primary constituencies are IT leaders, business executives, heads of operations, heads of strategy and product leaders of technology providers in the Financial Services industry. This group is part of the wider CIO research & advisory practice.

About the Role

As a Senior Director Analyst in our Financial Services Research & Advisory practice you will create thought leading research for IT leaders in end-user organizations such as commercial or retail banks, payment services providers or lending companies. You will publish research, lead conversations with clients (Inquiries), hold presentations, have teleconferences, and attend client meetings. You will primarily interact with IT leaders such as CIOs/CDOs. In addition, you may also interact with technology providers, fintechs or other actors in the banking industry. This is a unique opportunity for a creative and dynamic individual to help shape the Industry Strategies used these IT leaders. It is important that you have a vision for the business impact of information technology in the Banking Technology Industry, specifically in the area of core banking processes such as lending and payments. A specific focus will be on market developments and innovations in the Chinese banking industry such as business ecosystems or mobile applications (super-apps).

What you will do

  • Conduct research and analysis in specific areas of expertise targeting client’s key initiatives such as:

    • Disruption and innovation in the Chinese and APAC banking industry

    • Fintech, digital giants and business ecosystems in the Chinese banking and financial services industry

    • Digital and mobile banking, open banking, APIs and super apps

    • Payments and lending business processes

    • Digital Transformation / Digital Customer Experience

    • Payments and lending technologies, architectures, trends and innovation (for instance instant payments)

    • Core banking systems / Legacy Modernization

    • Regulatory developments in the Chinese banking sector

  • Write high quality, clear, actionable, advisory research documents.

  • Remain ahead of the curve on developments and issues within these specified areas as well as applicable adjacent areas.

  • Respond to client questions, create materials for and deliver to clients in person, via teleconference, video conference or webinar and event presentations

  • Proactively work with the wider sales organization and deliver outstanding sales support in order to retain and grow the business

What you will need

  • Bachelor's degree, MBA preferred

  • Strong fluency in Mandarin and English is a must, both verbally and in written

  • 12+ years’ experiences in relevant roles, with a significant proportion of that time spent within banking industry and/or a technology provider serving the banking & securities sector

  • The successful candidate will have strong expertise and knowledge in technologies used in the Chinese banking & securities sector, especially in the area of payments and lending.

  • Ability to work with senior executives within the client base to develop futuristic and compelling scenarios and recommendations for industry clients seeking to innovate their banking technology roadmaps.

  • Experience in writing, blogging, presenting and speaking engagements an advantage.

  • Independent worker, deadline driven, excellent executive communication and client facing skills

  • Demonstrated analytical skills, applying conceptual models, recognizing patterns while drawing and defending conclusions. Strong business acumen as well as analytical skills are required for this position

  • Ability to formulate and articulate technology and business adoption scenarios that help senior IT leaders assess the opportunities, risk, and best approaches for modernizing their Banking Technology portfolio

  • Ability to collaborate in cross-team settings with other colleagues from the Financial Services practice or other Gartner subject matter experts with different domain coverage

  • Ability to conduct occasional travel, primarily in China or the APAC region
