Leadership Partner – Federal Sourcing & Vendor Management


Enterprise IT Leaders (EITL) is an executive-level advisory service that delivers expert insight and guidance tailored to each member's context and most critical initiatives. Gartner’s Leadership Partners team consists of 200+ Leadership Partner’s (LP) globally who have depth of technical expertise in one of the seven domain areas. In this role, they leverage their technical, management, and leadership experience to equip business leaders with indispensable, advice, objective insights, and tools to achieve their mission-critical priorities today and build the successful organizations of tomorrow. 

What you will do:

  • You will manage a portfolio of 25-30 clients, typically Sourcing Vendor Management leaders reporting to CIOs in government agencies

  • As their Leadership Partner, you will leverage your expertise and Gartner research to deliver value through regular client consultations, facilitating peer to peer networking, on-site strategic sessions, roundtables, webinars and through attending relevant Gartner events 

  • You will use your knowledge and expertise, along with additional Gartner resources and research, to advise, coach and mentor your clients on critical initiatives and obstacles specifically within the Sourcing and Vendor Management space

  • Collaboration is key: You will work closely across internal Gartner teams to ensure value is delivered; these can include Sales teams, Analysts, Client Managers, and your peers across other EITL domains

  • This role is a largely Client-facing position that requires a high level of Executive presence and ability to build trust and deliver value in a remote environment

  • Key performance metrics include client retention and regional growth. You will be measured on your client retention, and your direct support of Gartner Sales in prospect cultivation and  account plan development. You will work with Account Executives in virtual prospect meetings to demonstrate Enterprise IT Leaders capability and support.

  • This is a predominantly home-based role, with approximately 25% travel.  You will operate as an individual contributor managing your administrative tasks, i.e. travel, expense reports, meeting scheduling.

What you will need: 

We’d love to talk to you if you have:

  • 10+ years’ experience with a primary focus in a role of Sr. IT leadership in Sourcing, Vendor Management, Procurement, Business of IT, Office of the CIO, or related function in the Federal Government (Senior Executive Service preferred) and 5+ years in Professional Services/Consulting.   

  • Experience in executive level roles within consulting

  • Modern technical skills and subject matter expertise in the areas below:

    • Business of IT 

      • Cost Optimization, IT Finance, IT Budgeting, IT investment planning, the Business Value of IT, Communication and Business Relationship Management

    • Vendor Management 

      • Vendor Management Office from relationship inception through maturation and across contracts, supplier performance, and supplier relationship management disciplines

    • Sourcing and Procurement

      • Lifecycle of the “deal” for all IT hardware, software, and services including Hybrid Sourcing, Cloud Sourcing, Outsourcing, SLAs, OLAs, and contract negotiations

    • Minimum Bachelor’s degree required, a Master’s degree is ideal

Direct experience working for and with the US Federal Government

  • Active Top Secret security clearance

  • Extensive experience interacting at the senior executive service (SES), General/Flag Officer and Political Appointee level

  • Experience as direct manager of medium to large team of government employees

  • Experience interacting with government support contractor management and resources

  • Knowledge and experience with DoD and/or Federal Agency acquisition process and policy

  • Knowledge and experience with DoD and/or Federal Agency program objectives memorandum (POM) process

  • Experience interacting with and tasking government Contracting Officers in the procurement of IT services and capabilities
