Job Brief

Gartner Digital Markets is looking for an experienced and passionate leader to join our Tech team in Austin, TX, as  a Manager of Engineering. In this player/coach role, you will work with team members and stakeholders to provide technology vision, enable innovation, and understand critical trends that will create increased business value. You will  be responsible for leading a team of between 3-5  highly motivated engineers.  A percentage of your time will be spent managing a team, managing projects, and leading business initiatives, and the remaining time will be spent doing hands-on coding, applying advanced technology knowledge and skills in assessing technical requirements and proactively directing, designing and developing leading edge solutions. The successful candidate will need to be able to communicate effectively with senior management, team members, and senior business stakeholders across the division and Gartner. Current or prior experience working in a start-up or similar environment is a plus

What You Will do:

  • Lead and coach team members in all aspects of their role

  • Work in partnership with Product Owners and other Engineering leaders to shape both the product and engineering roadmaps

  • Deliver value by driving alignment on the team and developing creative solutions to customer problems

  • Iteratively improve underlying technical systems and interfaces

  • Set the direction for your team, while empowering them to innovate and leverage their talent

  • Assess risks, manage conflicts, and deal with setbacks positively and proactively

  • Encourage the team to try something new, learn from our mistakes, and build credibility through integrity and open communication

  • Future exposure Machine Learning  (aws models, gpt-3)

What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent work experience

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, align, motivate, and coach a high performing engineering team in a player/coach role (5+ years development experience, 2+ years leadership experience)

  • A customer centric focus and passion for engineering

  • A drive to help continuously improve processes and frameworks both on the team as well as in the engineering organization

  • The ability to lead and facilitate collaboration through a remote first approach

  • A win-win approach to problem solving

  • Driven by curiosity and the need to learn and continuing to develop

  • You enjoy a good challenge: you are not afraid to make mistakes and quickly learn from them

  • You aren’t tied to the status quo and strive to achieve new design standards
