Senior Public Relations Specialist, HR Research Practice (Arlington, VA)

About Gartner Corporate Communications:

Gartner’s Corporate Communications team is responsible for defining, promoting and protecting the Gartner brand. By creating compelling content and marketing programs, our goal is to engage internal and external audiences in our value proposition and corporate narrative in order to drive long-term, double-digit growth.

About this role:

The Senior PR Specialist will play a significant role in the development and execution of a holistic PR program for Gartner’s HR practice to promote our expertise and thought leadership in the HR space, increasing our brand awareness among key targets (prospects and clients), shortening the sales cycle and contributing to the continued growth of the company worldwide.

What you’ll do: 

  • Work closely with the PR director to significantly contribute to the holistic PR program for Gartner’s HR practice, focused on promoting our expertise and thought leadership and generating brand awareness for Gartner in the HR space
  • Develop and maintain relationships with our top trade media in the HR space – proactively pitch our research and thought leadership and respond to inbound requests from reporters
  • Partner with PR director and external agencies to manage incoming media inquiries by understanding reporter’s deadlines and determining the right analyst for the topic
  • Conduct rapid response with the media in response to breaking news
  • Proactively source new content on HR client site, and based on media interest, to identify potential media angles to use in PR pitches
  • Manage the media measurement program for the HR practice PR program – search for and analyze data from media measurement tool to create various graphs, visuals and slides detailing program outcomes
  • Create various written collateral, including media pitches, press releases, byline articles, Smarter With Gartner (content marketing) articles and social media content
  • Provide support for Gartner HR events – assist in developing the PR Toolkit and other materials for our Gartner ReimagineHR conferences, pitch reporters to attend and/or cover the conference
  • Maintain and refine media lists to ensure they are updated and current
  • Share key media coverage via Gartner social media engagement tool and real-time emails to stakeholders
  • Update Gartner’s Tumblr page
  • Contribute to and update various tracking documents to accurately reflect results
  • Utilize Business Wire to distribute media advisories and press releases; Post press releases/media advisories on Gartner Newsroom
  • Understand social media best practices and actively participate in the relevant conversations happening on Twitter and LinkedIn
  • Work closely with Gartner’s external PR agencies
  • Must be a self-starter who demonstrates independence and initiative in taking on and completing deliverables with minimal direction and oversight from supervisor.
  • Experience in developing and executing communication processes utilizing a range of tactics and platforms

What you’ll need:

  • 4-6 years’ experience in an internal communications, public relations, corporate communications or marketing role, preferably in a large organization
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders, including senior executives and individuals in adjacent specialties in a professional, fast-paced environment
  • Must have strong written / verbal / interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be a self-starter who demonstrates independence and initiative in taking on and completing deliverables with minimal direction and oversight from supervisor
  • Ability to interface with all levels of the organization, including corporate executives and business leaders
  • Experience in developing and executing communication plans utilizing a range of tactics
  • Exceptional collaboration and problem-solving skills
  • Sense of urgency when approaching job responsibilities, particularly working with the media
